award is named after the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library. It is presented to a Latino/Latina writers and illustrators whose works best portray, affirm, and celebrate the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children.
The Coretta Scott King Book Award
is
presented to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. It is named after Mrs. Coretta Scott King, the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in recognition of her life's work and commitment to peace and world brotherhood.
